Why My Samsung Soundbar Keeps Switching to TV Speakers?
Nothing can be more frustrating than a situation in which your Samsung soundbars keep switching to the TV speakers after every few minutes on their own, and you cannot do much about it. Here are the Steps for Resolving the Soundbar Keeps Switching to TV Speakers Issue:
- Firstly, you need to turn off both the TV, and the soundbar, and wait for at least 30 seconds before turning on the TV again.
- Turn on the Samsung Soundbar, and then turn it off using the soundbar remote, now keep holding the Play/Pause button on the soundbar until it shows “INIT”, which means that your soundbar is getting reset.
- After the soundbar turns itself on, it should have fresh firmware, with completely new settings.
- Changing the ports can also resolve the issue of source changing on the Samsung soundbar, so, if you are using a non-ARC soundbar, change the HDMI cable from the ARC HDMI to non-eARC/ARC socket, and your issue should get resolved.
- If none of the above-mentioned steps work for you, then there is an issue with the firmware of your TV, and you have to update the firmware on your TV to the latest.
- If your TV firmware is already to the latest version, then you can make a hard reset on your TV, and you are good to go.

With Samsung TV version 1401 of firmware you have to plug non-ARC receiver or audio device to a non-ARC port on TV to get CEC working and use Optical fiber audio. You get an error on power up “Receiver should be connected to ARC port” but cancel it and move on. Samsung should fix this.
I have been experiencing this with my Samsung TV and Soundbar. When I first got the soundbar, I had everything plugged into HDMI3 (ARC) port and it was working fine; then 1401 came around and it kept switching back to the TV SPK. I tried resetting the TV and the soundbar to no avail. Just switched it the HDMI1 which is non-ARC, got the error message you mentioned, dismissed it, now my soundbar is properly producing sound. Looks like Samsung messed up that software update and knowing these companies, they won’t fix it.

Any luck with this fault? I have just done this update & my Panasonic SA-PT980 does not play sound……using an Optical Out cable
I solved this problem with a simple trick: take the TV off your WiFi, disconnecting it from the Internet. With the inability for my Samsung QLED to “phone home,” it stopped shifting the sound back to its own speakers, and away from my Sony soundbar.
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.
